Recognize 2012

FRIDAY - Rain likely. Patchy fog. A chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon. Highs in the upper 50s. Chance of rain 60 percent.

FRIDAY NIGHT - Cloudy. Patchy fog in the evening. A chance of rain and thunderstorms in the evening - then a chance of showers after midnight. Lows in the upper 30s. Chance of rain 50 percent.

Recognize 2012 !!!

Hmmm, latest rumor…due to PFA rescheduling (don’t know if I spelled that correctly) and poor performance by the class of 2012…recognition is still a few weeks away.

Reconozca la clase de 2012 !!!

…what exactly entails recognition at MMA? are the frosh still bracing up at all times, squaring meals, marching to class, etc, or is this more of a formality? When we were at KP for the MMA/CGA game a freshman told us they had just got some sort of carryon in the cafeteria/wardroom that allowed them to look at their food.

zachogden,

The Plebe you talked to had just gone through Acceptance Day/Parent’s Weekend. That is a set date every year where the freshmen class is sworn into the Regiment as Plebes and the USNR as Midshipmen, thus dropping the “candidate” title. KP doesn’t do the square meals thing, but Plebe Candidates (as they are called between Indoc and Acceptance Day) must look down at their plates, cannot talk to each other, and must sit on the front 6" of their chairs when at chow. The only significant changes I remember at Acceptance Day were that we finally got some liberty and could eat like normal people at meals.

At KP, Recognition is where the Plebes no longer have to march to classes, sqaure corners, run outside, keep their hair real short and a bunch of other little things. This is not a set date and is based on the performance of the class, as well as their accomplishments of certain tasks. The class is therefore “recognized” by the upperclass as 4/C Midshipmen (they are always legally mids, but regimentally, they are plebes until recognition).

Wardrooms at KP are only for the 1/C. Everybody has to wait their turn for that privilege.

alright thanks. every academy does things a little differently and i was just curious how MMA worked in this regard.

as per the wardroom thing, we call our dining hall the wardroom (everyone eats in the same place), so I’m assuming the place we all ate in at the cga/mma game was just the regular dining hall?

yep, you are correct that you likely ate in Delano Hall, the “regular” dining hall. Each company in turn has it’s own wardroom which is just a glorified TV area that usually has a small kitchenette in the back.

BUMP. Snappler missed a day. WAKE UP PEOPLES!!

Recognize 2012! :D

On April 7th, it will be 9 months since they arrived for Indoc! It’s time.

BUMP! Recognize 2012.

My S just informed me that today they told them basically they will not be recognized and that they will become 3rd classmen on June 21st.

I would hope not - it kinda makes the 1st class look bad. They are supposed to be in charge. If they can’t get those few problem plebes to toe the mark, how are they going to do on a ship? It’s time to step up and get the plebes the rest of the way through this.
Recognize 2012!

Greetings everyone. It’s been a while since I’ve posted, however I keep my eye on the flow of topics on CC.
This one has been really fun to watch. Yes the seniors have always and will always say the Plebe class isn’t ready.
On the topic of “they were told they would be 3rd class on June 21” who is the “THEY”?
My belief is that this final push before Recognition is trying to motivate the class. Yes it’s all a head game. The test here is for the Seniors to see if they can get the last bit of effort out of the Plebs. If the Plebs don’t make it, it is a HUGE failure of leadership, both with the Seniors and the Administration.

I still believe it’s still a head game and at the moment the Seniors are winning.
My belief is that my Plebe will remember this and choose to lead as a senior based on this experience. It will be the future Seniors to decide what works best.

Just a couple of “cents” to add to the list.

Bump to the top.

Your right! Who is “THEY”.

The (r,e,c,o,g,n,i,z, 2,0,1) keys on my lap top are just about worn off due to my support of 2012 and participation on this forum. lol

Recognize 2012…before I get carpal tunnel.

hmmmm interesting indeed. I believe “they” are the “committee,” whoever that is, that decides when the plebe class has earned the right to become official 4th Class Midshipmen. Remember…past history is that there was at least one (if not more) classes that did NOT get recognized because they did not earn the right of passage :)

“They” is the class of 2012 - It’s a passive sentence (An English teacher frowns). “The Class of 2012 were told (by whom?! probably by the upperclassmen) Class of 2012 would be 3rd class on June 12”

Furthermore, I heard that the plebes are acting like they have already been recognized and they botched a couple of their steps. Also, an ad hoc campaign to increase the likeliness of the c/o 2012 be recognized has been compromising their recognition date.

Snappler, ctrl + v. :D

I think they should be recognized right after licensing exams.

Maybe 2012 mommy’s and dad’s should call and cry to the administration!!
