So my dad is quite a powerful person. I find myself quite intelligent 94 on ssat, good grades, etc. Will alumni connections which I have for ALOT of the schools I am applying to matter? If so how much?
It depends on the school and the alum and their connection to you. It usually won’t hurt but often it won’t make much of a difference at all. A rec from a trustee friend of the family who has known you all of your life will have more weight than a business associate of your father’s who has never met you and has had little involvement with the school. A friend of mine who is a trustee at a bs and is frequently asked for recommendation letters will only write one if he knows the family, has met the applicant and the applicant has declared that the school is his/her first choice. If the rest of your application is a strong as your SSAT then you may not need the rec anyway.
