Recommend a book

I need help finding a good non-fiction book on a country for one of my classes. Any recommendations?

Spain (more specifically post-Spanish Civil War)
By Carlos Ruiz Zafon called “The Shadow of the Wind”
Best book I have ever read and I have reread it about 5-6 times and I still cry everytime I read it. Fantastic.

I believe “The Shadow of the Wind” is fiction, op needs a non-fiction title. I do agree that it is a great book though.

good call, i’ve been reading confederate manuscripts and newspapers from the 1860s all day, so my brain isn’t exactly working well. scratch that, but still read “The Shadow of the Wind” anyway. I don’t like non-fiction except for American history so I really can’t help you.

How about something along the lines of Bill Bryson’s In a Sunburned Country? I’ve been looking forward to reading one of his books, but I was hoping for a country a bit more exotic than Australia.

Bill Bryson is a really good author. I’ve read all his books, I liked his book on Europe the best. Thomas Kohnstamm wrote “Do all travel writers go to hell?” about Brazil, but that might not be the most appropriate book to read, albeit it is a fantastic read and I really love Kohnstamm’s prose.

[All the Shah’s Men](http://www.amazon.com/All-Shahs-Men-American-Middle/dp/0471265179) is an excellent treatment of the 1953 U.S. coup of Iran’s government. The book reads like good fiction, but does not sacrifice the truth of what happened. It should be especially relevant today in light of the issues between Iran and the United States.

Perhaps Down and Out in Paris and London? I’m not sure if it’s what you’re looking for, though I do believe it’s non-fictional and, hey, you’ll only have to read half the book. :)
