Ben Folds! He’s a genius on the piano and an excellent lyricist.

Panglossian, I admire your taste!

Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon (then get Wish You Were Here and The Wall)

Lots more…tell us your taste…or try something new!

Cradle of Filth?

*laff

Um, why are you laughing? The name? Or are you familiar with them and disagree with the genre I put them in? If the former, eh, what era do you hail from? (Not exactly a worse name than the Beatles or Black Sabbath. And anyway, who cares about the dumb name? The music is what counts.) If the latter, I admit it was a VERY loose categorization.

If I need music I use the Chinese search engine system.

Did you see the bands I posted? Then you’d know I’m familiar with their music and the genre. Their name has nothing to do with my dislike for them. They are the worst of bm.

GOOD BM?

Burzum, Emperor, Mayhem, Borknagar, and Bathory.

Radiohead, Phish, Miles Davis, The Mars Volta, Sigur ros :)

Sigur Ros is really relaxing… but they are an icelandic band…

Christina Aguilera.

Such a beautiful voice.

the beatles, cake, franz ferdinand, gogol bordello (crazy gypsy punk party band–played an AMAZING show Tuesday night in DC), incubus, jack johnson, jimi hendrix, kaki king, led zeppelin, the mars volta, michelle branch, oasis, the postal service, radiohead, red hot chili peppers, regina spektor, franz schubert, sonic youth, sublime, trace bundy

“Did you see the bands I posted? Then you’d know I’m familiar with their music and the genre. Their name has nothing to do with my dislike for them. They are the worst of bm.”

Ah, now I know where you are coming from. Actually, I didn’t see your earlier post but now that I have, I understand. You are one of those into the really hardcore bm and thinks CoF is a sellout. When compared to the bands you list, I can see why you think that. Yes, I am familiar with nearly all those you listed - my son is into all of them. Of those, the only one I can tolerate is SOME of Borknagor. I do love Dark Tranquility and Children of Bodom - not sure what you think about them - that’s about the closest to growly death vox I can handle. It’s the voice I usually have a problem with - I adore Dimu Borgir’s music but can’t stand the demonic-sounding voice. And it doesn’t diminish me to admit, that, either. Demons are real enough without inviting them into your head!

But, keep in mind that I am 46 and a mom - so it’s amazing I like any of it at all, being that I was brought up on Judas Priest and Black Sabbath!

I think the issue with Cradle is that they have polished up a lot since the Dusk days. I agree that they’ve gotten very slick, but I love it! My son tells me I would not like them if I knew what Dani was singing about, so for that reason I don’t read the lyrics. That way, I can remain blissfully ignorant and just pretend he is singing about angels! <wink></wink>

DB and Burzum are the real deal. Cradle is just a wannabe, which is fine by me. I think their music is far better anyway. And I think Cryptopsy is absolutely NASTY - the best at chaos. I prefer music to chaos - but, to each his own! My parents used to call Led Zeppelin noise - can you imagine! They are melodic lullabys in comparison.

I also like Akercoke, In Flames (some), Satyricon…oh, and GOJIRA!!!

in addition to the usual Tool, NIN, etc. of course.

PS fw, You should consider telling the OP the genre of the bands you posted. They do deserve a warning, so s/he’ll know what s/he is getting into! I mean, think about it - your bands are up there listed next to Red Hot Chili Peppers and such benign stuff as that. OP might not even know what BM stands for, so you might want to enlighten, lest s/he think it has something to do with toilet habits. <wink again=“”></wink>

yeah, what is BM? I’ve been wondering for a while now…

Black Metal. Some BM bands are known to be satanists, and others just pretend. That’s what I meant by ‘the real deal.’ Most of them, though, just play heavy music, really, really heavy music. Some wear corpse paint and various other fashionable trappings. Some of the music is actually quite good. I dislike most of them because most have vocals that are very gutteral, and sound ‘growly’ which I detest. However, some have very lush, even orchestral music woven together with heavy rock, which makes for an awesome combination.

FW is more of a connoisseur than I am, so he will probably offer a more accurate definition. There are many sub-genres. I only know this much because my son insisted on educating me, in exchange for me turning him on to Sabbath, Floyd, etc. when he was 13.

oh. ok. neato.

I like music that makes me feel warm & fuzzy inside. Like Tilly and the Wall. Who DOESN’T love tap dancing as percussion? :)

bale bale!

Mat Kearney and Snow Patrol= crazy delicious
