Recommend me some non-UC schools within my reach

Major: Math/Econ, preferably one with good preparation for grad school.
GPA: 3.45 with upward trend (w/ straight A’s again could increase to 3.74), 3.48 (weighted) in high school.
SAT: 2150 (760 math, 700 reading, 690 writing)
SAT II: 790 US History, 740 Math II)
Relevant transfer programs: Will complete IGETC and UCLA’s TAP program (honors)
Relevant EC’s: Looking into student newspaper and possibly political clubs for this year, none last year except for a bit of volunteering for local Democratic Party. A few house builds in Mexico during HS.
Work Experience: A ton of math tutoring jobs.
Comments: I got rejected from every UC besides Merced out of high school, (3.3 weighted sophomore/junior GPA) got a 2.8 first semester of community college, started studying the next semester and got a fairly easy 4.0, so I’m looking to challenge myself at a college and want to explore non-UC options. Public schools or private schools with good financial aid would be preferred.

Please?

post in a different section

Where?

(10char)

Why do you want non-UC’s?

why does it matter why he doesn’t want UC’s? He probably knows about all the UC’s and wants to see what else is out there.

Well, Mr. Smith… if we knew what it is he doesn’t like about the UC’s, then it would help in suggesting other schools for him. Or, if he thinks he would not be competitive for the UC’s, it would help target what level of selectivity would be good for him.

There are 3000-4000 colleges and U’s in this country — “public schools and private schools with good financial aid” is not a lot to go on in making suggestions.

“There are 3000-4000 colleges and U’s in this country — “public schools and private schools with good financial aid” is not a lot to go on in making suggestions.”

That’s exactly why I want recommendations. I want to apply to UC’s as well as other schools.

And that’s not all I said. I also listed a good econ department and a possibility for me to get in.

Well, you have really strong scores. It must have been the GPA that held you back. So assuming your GPA will keep climbing (as that 2.8 averages into 4.0’s or near 4.0’s), I think a lot of schools will be within your reach, although probably not the uber-selectives.

So… do you have a geographic preference? Size? Urban/rural etc? Re oos publics, are you assuming you’d need finaid at those as well? Because oos tuition can be stiff, especially as compared to what Calif residents get at the UC’s.

I would like to see some school recommendations for this guy, because my stats are very close to his. I am a Business major though finnishing up CC next semester with around 65 units and all the normal lower division business classes taken - Accounting 1/2 , Econ 1,2 , Calculus , ect. I guess I could list some specifics, what are his chances (assuming business major) at:

NYU
Georgetown
University of Virgina
UNC
Northwestern

Thanks in advance.

Could someone recommend a couple schools for this guy, or chance him at the above schools?

yeah, truly. also, how would he fare for CMC?

Claremont McKenna

CL, I don’t want to be a downer, but a 3.45 is low for all of those schools. Work on getting it up over a 3.7.

(w/ straight A’s again could increase to 3.74)

What would my chances be then?

I missed this. I’d like to go to a medium-sized school in the Northeast, West, or a non-US English-speaking country. Basically anything with a liberal atmosphere. Urban preferably and I meant any school with good financial aid.
