<p>Happykid’s optometrist sold his practice to My Eye Doctor, and the contacts that he used to charge about $20 per box for, are now quoted as “$45 but we price match.” I spent yesterday morning tracking down websites, and calling around on the phone for pricing. Nearly lost my mind! What I did learn is that WalMart has the 1800contacts prices in house. If they have to special order your lenses for you, and you pick them up there, you don’t pay shipping.</p>
<p>Well, after checking the websites you all suggested that I hadn’t visited before, I called My Eye Doctor and asked for the details of their price matching. I was told to bring in the computer print out and they’d see what they could do (implying that some web pricing was too cheap for them to match). I bravely walked in with the unbelievably cheap (less than a third of what they’d quoted me in the office) print-out, and after verifying that the product was indeed equivalent to their in-house label, and double-checking the website herself, the billing manager gave me that price! Wow! I would have been perfectly happy if I’d had to negotiate it to the web price plus shipping (or something like that). I still have to wait for the things to arrive, but MED has kept me as a customer for another year.</p>
<p>I did ask the billing manager to please pass the message up the ladder that their pricing was excessive, given that other chain opticians in the area had quoted prices in the range of $25/box. for the lenses. She just sighed and said, “We try, but they just don’t listen to us.”</p>
<p>Perhaps the initial quote of $45/box is set there just so they can give big “discounts” to anyone who asks?</p>

<p>My sons both ordered their glasses from Zennioptical.com and they are both happy with them. Theirs are frameless, with stainless steel, which is exactly what they wanted, so I can’t say what the frames would be like. S1 going to order another style. He wants a pair of memory titanium, the twistable, flexible style. Unfortunately, the style he wants doesn’t come in gray, only silver. It can take up to a few weeks after ordering. And that’s not bad considering the savings.</p>
