Recommendation letter question

Will it hurt my chances in entering on a good university, if I don’t have any recommendation letters to submit? Well it is Summer time and most of my professors are out, and I want to submit my app for Spring 2010 as early as now. Should I submit it now or wait for my Fall class to submit it then I will miss my chance for early decision. My Fall class starts at September and the early decision starts and ends at Aug. 1-31.

Can you email recommendation requests to your professors?

Well… I just did that, but one of my professor has automatic mailing system saying he won’t be back until the start of the class. The other one hasn’t replied yet may be because I just mailed him yesterday. Should I get another recommendation letter from another professor even if I am not close with them?

Hopefully, you will be able to get at least one of them to write a recommendation. Maybe you can have your Academic Advisor write one. Ask him/her to include a notation that if an additional professor recommendation is needed, it will be sent at a later date when the professor returns to campus at the start of the academic year.

Well I tried going to his office today…sadly, he was not going to be there until Fall classes starts. Now what to do…I’m planning to ask a person in the Dean’s office if somebody will be able to make me one and my Biology teacher which I saw her today; is that a good idea? Also, there were no requirements in the university to have the letter of recommendation, but will it boost my chances if I still give one?

Note: I’m planning on transferring from a community college to a university.

One letter of recommendation from your Bio teacher is good. You could include a short cover letter with your application. In the cover letter, you could mention that if the admission’s department would like an additional letter of recommendation, you would be more than happy to request one from your (fill in the blank)professor when he/she returns to campus in the fall.

Good luck.

Well…how will I get a recommendation letter from a teacher that I am not really close with, but I got an A- from her Bio class. Ok, I’ll try the cover letter see if it works.

Thank you for the information.

Sorry, I must have misunderstood your last post. I thought you saw her today and discussed the recommendation with her.

Do what you can, send in the application, and make a notation that recommendations will be available upon request but not until after “such and such” a date when the professors return to campus for the academic school year.

Ok, thank you.

Out of curiosity what does early decision do you for you? I am new to this website and I keep hearing about early decision. What positives are in early decision?
