Recommendation Letter

To fulfill my application at a specific university they are asking for a recommendation letter and provide a form to submit (fit for an academic reference/teacher/counselor). Every university I have attempted to apply for has asked for an academic related reference, some multiple.

I have not been in a classroom since 2011 when I withdrew from high school. I received my GED (with honors) in 2015, the year I would have graduated and took an ACT. I never took classes for these or had a counselor/teacher.

I’ve emailed the admissions counselor for the school, asking for advice and they have not responded. I am so desperate to return to school and am so deeply discouraged over the past 2 years by the difficulties faced as a non-traditional student. I know I will succeed in a university and have honestly day dreamed about calling and begging.

There’s not really an employer I could ask and that seems silly. I suppose I could volunteer somewhere? The form calls for GPA inquiries, academic ability rankings, school name and phone number, etc.

My living situation is complicated thus a CC is not an option at the moment…

All of these admission processes are designed for kids to be hand-in-hand walked through by high schools and parents…

Have you contacted your old high school? Even a drop out has a record of attendance. You could be put in touch with an old teacher, a counselor who might look over your info and write you a letter anyway. Don’t give up, letters of recommendation shouldn’t hinder your chances of getting into school.

They are and it’s driving me crazy! It’s been 6-7 years, should I just dig up the e-mail of an English AP teacher I had in 9th grade and rant? This is unfortunately what I’ll have to do. The high school is the largest in the state, 3,000+ every year

I finally received an e-mail from an admissions counselor who evidently skipped over everything and said “yeah, just e-mail me the letter!” …

Every school I look at requires 2-4 academic recommendation letters for admissions. It’s just crazy that I’m forced to attend a CC. Not even an option for a long time
