Recommendation Letter

Hello,
Robotics and speech have been my two biggest activities throughout high school. My robotics team has performed fairly well on a local and national level, and I think this will be a major point of my college application. However, I do not planning on asking for a recommendation letter from my robotics coach because I think other teachers would write much better rec letters. Is this a mistake? Is it very important for me to have a rec letter from my coach if I want to emphasize my experiences on my robotics team in my application or do the awards speak for themselves?
Thank you!

I think you have the right thought process. I realized that the writing ability of your recommender is very important when my son asked his math teacher to write a letter of recommendation for a summer job. The teacher is an outstanding upper level math teacher. However, I must say I was quite surprised at the quality of her writing for the letter. It was fine for a summer job but I made a mental note that he would not be asking her for a college recommendation.
