Recommendation preferences

So they say that they want us to choose 2 teachers who know us well,
but,
do you know/think if stanford will have SLIGHT preferences as to which letters are sent from? like, would an english teacher’s letter be prefered over a foreign language teacher’s??

It does not matter what the subjects are, as long as they are academic subjects. Pick teachers that LOVE you. If they also can write well, it is a good thing (that’s what makes English teachers popular…)

Does computer science count as an academic subject? My CS teacher knows me perhaps the best of all my teachers.

Definitely go for that, then.

I think it’d be ok as long as it’s from the five core subject areas (lit, history, math, science, language)

If you’re agonizing over which subject’s teacher Stanford wants to see a rec written by, you’re not going about this in the right way. Think of what teacher you’ve gotten to know well, you’ve done quality work for, and that you’d like to have vouch for you in front of people you don’t know. Whoever writes your recs is YOUR advocate to the admissions officers…they will take whatever that person says and regard it very highly because it is the opinion of a fellow educator.

Thanks.
Well, I just debating, because there are 3 teachers i want to ask, all of who have known me 2 years+ and well.
Hmmmm…

I’m pretty sure CS would count. You could always call Stanford and ask. The Undergraduate Admissions number is (650)723-2091.
