Recommendations for a Cairo to Luxor cruise?

Thinking about a trip to Egypt - Giza and the pyramids, Luxor and Alexandria.

I like the idea of getting from Cairo to Luxor via a cruise – any recommendations?

Watch or read Death on the Nile!

I was thinking the same thing!

I did a cruise like this back in the day, but it was the backpacker’s version, haha. I recommend spending a lot for better quality.

Personally, I would not miss Aswan or Abu Simbel. I have no experience with Alexandria, but if your time is limited, I think other places are more interesting.

I agree, abu simbel well worth it.

If you are looking for something smaller and bespoke (versus a larger cruise ship) check out Nour el Nil. They sail on traditional Egyptian vessels called dahabiyas. Very luxurious but not necessarily modern.

That looks fabulous!

I’m also investigating Djed Egypt Travel.

I was looking into a Nile cruise once, either AMA Warerways or Viking River cruises. Expensive, but appealing.

Wow just looked them up. That looks amazing!

We did a private tour through Luxor & Aswan travel. It was very customizable with tickets already bought, a private guide and private driver. It included hotels, internal flights and a 4 day Nile Cruise on Farrah. Everything was perfect…. Highly recommend this company.
We flew to Cairo from the US, from Cairo flew to Awan, did Abu Simble as a day trip, 4 day cruise from Aswan to Luxor then flight from Luxor back to Cairo. With many tombs and temples in between plus a hot air balloon ride over the valley of the kings.

We had only a week in Egypt (2022). I looked at the Nile cruise - as a way to get between the cities (Aswan/Cairo/Luxor). After looking at the details, decided that the cruise wasn’t an efficient use of our time. The dahabiyas are wonderful and I would have loved to do that, but we didn’t have the time.

Instead, we stayed in Cairo for 2 days, then flew to Aswan. Visited Abu Simbel and then drove to Luxor, hitting some of the major sites on the way. These are the same sites you’d visit on the Nile cruise - only they would dock in one place and take you to the site by minivan/bus. Last couple of days were in Luxor and since S really wanted to do it, on our last day, we went to Alexandria instead of staying in Cairo.

Amazing, amazing trip. We crammed a lot in, but also had plenty of “chill” time (S’ words).

Death on the Nile - yes, definitely read/watch one of the movie versions. It was fabulous to see the actual places. We wanted to stay at the Old Cataract hotel ala Agatha Christie, but the prices were outrageous when we were there (only the Royal Suite or something like that was available). So, we did the next best thing and had high tea at the hotel, right in time for sunset on the Nile.

No words to describe it…
