Recommendations for schools that have good poly-sci programs?

I’m looking for a school with a good reputation for political science - I want to become a journalist, but I want to be able to fall back on the safety of law school if that doesn’t work out. Some schools I’m considering right now are: Columbia, Northwestern, NYU, Tufts, and Wake Forest. Based on my stats, what are some safeties/goals you can recommend for me? Also, what are my chances at Wake Forest? Would it be a reach, low reach, or maybe a goal school? Thank you so much!!!

(PS: I know my GPA for Columbia is a bit weak, but my dad went there for undergrad, grad and got his PhD there plus my uncle went there for undergrad, so I’m hoping that will have some weight

We need more information on your selection criteria besides political science and journalism.

Do you need financial aid? How much?

Any other criteria besides strong political science and journalism? You seem to favor urban schools - is that just a coincidence? Any other geographic constraints? What about cultural preferences? Do you need a significant Muslim population? Halal dining options? Would you consider an all girls school?

Would you consider liberal arts colleges (LACs?)

The more you can tell us about what your preferences are, the better the suggestions will be.

Do you need FA and more importantly, will you QUALIFY for the needed FA? Ask your parents how much they’ll pay each year, and determine what schools will expect you to pay. See if there’s a gap.

Have your parents use the net price calculators on Wake Forest, Columbia, NU, etc.

As for legacies at Columbia…you need to look into that. Legacies carry less weight these days…especially if applying RD.
