Just wondering if anyone has recommendations for places to stay in Venice. I’ll be on a food tour, October 10-17 and will be at the former monastery for that! I’m looking for a place for 3 days before and possibly 2 days after.
I previously stayed a couple of times in the San Polo neighborhood at Locanda Arco Antico, but it does not see to have rooms available on the dates I’d like.
At the Campiello, we got upgraded from small apartment to larger one. One nice bedroom, kids had to sleep on pullout couch. But oh my, TWO splendid full bathrooms.
Yes, we took a boat to the airport when we stayed in Venice right from our hotel’s dock. It was very cool. The hotel was called Hotel Canal Grande. We came in by train from Florence, and the hotel was a short walk from the train station, right on the water. We had a multi-story suite that slept our family of 5, but I think they have a variety of rooms. It is on the opposite side of Venice from St Mark’s Square, which we kind of liked (it was quieter and less touristy). We took water taxis or walked without a problem. We had dinner one night at Ristorante Antica Besseta, and highly recommend stopping by the Rialto Fish Market.
We stayed at the Hotel American-Dinesen in the Dorsoduro area. We enjoyed the location. We were also there in October and it was packed. We had been before so didn’t stress that we couldn’t get tickets to many places.
We did a bike trip in the Dolomites with a pre-trip to Venice. We stayed in Duodo Palace. It was fine, and the location was great. ETA we also took a boat to get there from the airport. I know you didn’t ask about things to do in Venice, but two fun and really inexpensive/free things we did are just get on a ferry that goes around the island/up the Grand Canal, and walk all of the bridges over the Grand Canal.
We had a heck of a time finding a place in Venice on the main island. We ended up here – and it wasn’t bad: Hotel Agli Artisti. It’s 50 feet from a delightful restaurant, Trattoria Il Vagone.
