Recommendations on CAA/CTY? What's it like?

Help - Need some info on CTY’s CAA residential program. One daughter took CTY residential for several years and enjoyed the social and overall group environment. Youngest one wants to go now. BUT, looking at courses offered for CTY and CAA, prefers the CAA on zoology or psychology. Anyone have any information on how CAA program is run Or information about CAA experience at Pennsylvania sites? Is the CAA program format same as CTY camp (e.g. social activities, class format and schedule, RA quality, etc., etc., ) She is really interested in the Zoology class (based on looking at the sample syllabus) but its on East Coast and we are on West coast. Any information appreciated!!

All four of my kids participated in one or the other of the programs. I saw no difference at all in how they were run or in the quality of the classes. One of the best classes any of my kids took was through the CAA program. They participated on the West Coast.

Several years ago my S went to a CAA class at Lafayette College, and then the next summer a CTY class at Johns Hopkins. The dorm facilities at Lafayette were superior - newer and had central air-conditioning. S qualified for CTY but was more interested in one of the CAA classes. He enjoyed both the CAA and the CTY classes, and didn’t seem to think that they were very different from each other, except for the wildly different topics of the two classes. All of the structure of the programs seemed to be the same.

A lot of schools don’t have air-conditioned dorms, so keep an eye out for that.

Thanks for your feedback! We are looking at the zoology class at Lafayette college and will likely sign up for that.
