recommended schools

I’m a junior taking the most difficult courses my school has to offer. The Ap’s I have taken, am taking, and am going to take include:

Sophomore
AP World History

Junior
AP US History
AP Calc BC
Ap English Language

Senior
AP Gov
AP English Lit
AP Physics (the class is accelerated chemistry-physics that covers enough material in physics to allow me to take the AP physics but not chemistry test)

My school only offers math through Calc BC so I am taking Multivariable Calculus at a nearby college my senior year.

SAT: Math - 780, Writing - 620, Reading - 660
ACT: 31
SAT II: plan on taking MathII, Physics and/or Chemistry, and US History (should score in the high 700’s for each)

I plan on retaking both the ACT and SAT. I think I can move the ACT to a 32 and improve the SAT writing and reading sections to at least the high 600’s.

I have a 4.0 GPA (UW) and am ranked #1 out of 756.

My EC’s aren’t that great compared to a lot of people who post here. I have played football for 6 years and am a two year starter on the varsity team at a very large school. I don’t play other sports because I am very dedicated to weightlifting during the offseason. I am a member of student council and will be the treasurer my senior year. I will be in NHS. I have played trumpet and guitar for 5 years but haven’t been playing that much lately. Last summer I went on a Student Ambassador trip to Australia. This summer I will be getting a job and doing a great deal of volunteer work along with continuing my weightlifting regiment. I plan to continue the job and volunteering throughout my senior year (but a little less active during the football season due to time constraints).

I know that I will be able to write great application essays and I have a great deal of teachers who I know would write excellent recommendations for me.

I plan to major in either physics, chemistry, or a form of engineering in college.

With all that said. What do all of you think are some good “safety, fit, and reach” schools for someone with my stats and planned major?

the ever annoying bump

http://www.princetonreview.com/college/research/advsearch/match.asp

The best way to get results on safeties, fits, and reaches.

Here’s a few schools you might want to take a look at, all with good Engineering and/or Science programs, all approriate for a kid with your stats. The ones at the top of the list are reaches and at the bottom, low fits. The ones in the middle are in-between.

Georgia Institute of Technology
Cornell
UC Berkeley
Johns Hopkins
Northwestern
Carnegie Mellon
University of Michigan - Ann Arbor
University of Wisconsin - Madison
Lehigh
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute
Case Western Reserve
Purdue - West Lafeyette
Penn State - University Park
University of Maryland - College Park

Safeties: schools like Rutgers - New Brunswick, University of Massechusetts - Amherst, University of Pittsburgh.

Oh, and don’t bother with Stanford, MIT, or CIT. Although your class rank is impressive, your SAT and ACT scores are not strong enough for these schools.
