Recommender Thank You?

Hey all,

It’s been a while since I’ve posted here, but I had a burning question which I knew only CC parents could answer.

Before I left London, I asked (months in advance) if my study abroad law professor could write me a letter of recommendation for… you guessed it, law school. I received an e-mail last night saying it’s been written and available for pickup. A friend of mine is going to pick it up and mail it to me, but I wanted to know what would be the best way to thank her… since she is, well… literally on the other side of the ocean. I feel an e-mail thank you wouldn’t suffice, but conventional gifts (e.g. chocolate, wine, etc.) wouldn’t work either.

What do you think would be the best way to say thank you to a recommender who’s a few thousand miles away?

Thanks.

Why not simply a hand-written card expressing your thanks? Also a follow up to let them know how you made out would be nice too. I write such rec. letters all the time and that type of thank you is pretty typical and appreciated.

Believe me, a simple email is fine. Later on, when you hear the results of your application, you can send a card thanking the recommender and letting her know the results.

Hard to believe that you went to your college interview in your ROTC uniform not that long ago and now you’re about to apply to law school!
