On Common App, Princeton allows 2 recommenders. I had three teachers write rec letters for me and used two of them for Princeton. However, on my app tracking site, it says they received all three of mine.
When I “assign” an excluded recommendation to college, meaning the recommendation is on my list but not assigned (like in reserve for other colleges), it says it’s already downloaded.
Are colleges supposed to have ALL of my rec letters?
I only wanted some colleges to have two, but like Princeton, they might have three or more.

“it says it’s already downloaded.” You see this on CommonApp? Where on CommonApp?

When I assigned my reserve recommender to a school, say Brown, which I didn’t have the recommender for, it says “Downloaded”.

If you do not assign the recommender to a certain school, it would not even show up on the list under that college. How would you see “downloaded”? My D has 4 teacher recommenders and most schools just need 2. We never see that problem. The third recommendation may be referring to the counselor report. Does your school use Naviance? If so, it may be the school counselor messed it up.

Exactly, I did not assign it to a school, and it did not show up under the college.
However, after i submitted my application to that school, their tracking system reports that they received the omitted rec letter. I even assigned the recommender AFTER I submitted my application, and it says the omitted has been downloaded.

^ That may be a system glitch. Are you sure you can assign a recommender after submitting the application?

I can for experimental’s sake. When I do, it says downloaded. Princeton said they have received all three of my recs even though they only allow two to be assigned. Have no idea what’s going on.

I now see the same problem. My D applied for an EA school. She had two teacher A and B submitted LOR online and a third teacher C submitted a paper LOR. My D assigned teacher A and C in her CommonApp. On her EA school’s tracking system, it shows that LOR from A & B are received and no information about C.

I can imagine this could create trouble for some applicants who would like to tailor whose LOR to send where. It seems at this moment that all LOR are sent to all schools applied no matter they are assigned or not.
