My daughter will be missing lots of classes this semester due to med school interviews. She would like to get some type of device so classmates can record the missed classes for her. Does anybody have any reccomendations with recorders, keeping the price at $100 or less? I hesitate to order one without knowing the clarity quality. She goes to a LAC with small classes, so having one that records long range is not necessary. Thank you.

I like the [Sony ICD-PX312 2GB digital voice recorder with expandable memory](<a href=“Sony ICD-PX312 2GB digital voice recorder with expandable memory at Crutchfield”>Sony ICD-PX312 2GB digital voice recorder with expandable memory at Crutchfield). Digital is definitely the way to go. Get a couple micro-SD cards and she can record forever!

The [Sony ICD-PX312D Digital voice recorder](<a href=“Sony ICD-PX312D Digital voice recorder with voice-to-text software at Crutchfield”>Sony ICD-PX312D Digital voice recorder with voice-to-text software at Crutchfield) comes with speech to text software for and extra $20.

The one I have is an Olympus but it does not seem to be offered anymore. Here is one where the description is close to the same. [Sony - Digital Voice Recorder - ICDAX412](http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Sony+-+Digital+Voice+Recorder/1792258.p?id=1218291941157&skuId=1792258&st=digital%20voice%20recorder&cp=1&lp=3)

This Olympus does not seem to meed separate software which may be good. [Olympus - WS-600S Digital Voice Recorder - 142610](http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Olympus+-+WS-600S+Digital+Voice+Recorder/1067287.p?id=1218216673659&skuId=1067287&st=digital%20voice%20recorder&cp=1&lp=13)

Be careful using one of these and make sure you get the prof’s permission. My D uses one from time to time because of a hearing impairment and she had to sign a waiver acknowledging the copyright of each lecture and that she must delete all recordings at the end of the semester or if the Prof requests it. She is not supposed to let anyone else hear the lectures either. We had the same thing happen in HS and asked about it at other colleges and were told the exact same requirements.

Go with the sony. I use it due to disability issues and have never had a problem with it.

Also percussiondad, my school has no such thing.

icedragon— I am glad you had no problem but my D also has permission to use it as a learning aid due to being deaf in one ear but as I said we discussed it with the colleges where she applied and was told the same thing. All I am suggesting is that the OP does not just assume they can record a class but to confirm it and make sure there is no problem first.
