I was just wondering if there was a major difference in the both of them. I wanted to go for Physical Therapy, you can only take as a graduate program at my University. When signing up for orientation I was to declare my major and there were three options. Your Major, your Minor and if you want to pursue a Grad program you could choose from a few.
Physical therapy was not a choice in majors so the admissions advisers told me to choose the closest one to my major, so I chose recreational therapy, I did not have any plans of minoring in anything yet so I left that blank and then I choose Pre-Physical Therapy as my Graduate degree.
I was just wondering if there was a major difference in the both of them if I did decide to purse both.
You don’t have to major in physical therapy or pre-physical therapy or whatever to go to graduate school for physical therapy. Programs may have prerequisite courses or other admission requirements that you would need to take for admission, and you can do this from any major. This might help you get started: http://www.apta.org/ProspectiveStudents/Admissions/PTProcess/ but if you’re seriously considering physical therapy, you should get an idea of what you would need to do to be accepted into a program so you have an idea of what courses you would need to take or what experience you should look into getting.
When you say pre-physical therapy for your "graduate degree, do you mean your school has a direct admit program to their physical therapy program? Or is it just an opportunity to indicate an intention that you would like to go into physical therapy (perhaps with prerequisite courses worked into the curriculum)?
Recreational therapy involves recreation-based therapy programs for people with disabilities, from what I can tell. You should major in it if you want to go into recreational therapy, but if you are really interested in physical therapy, then you can major in anything that will still allow you to take the prerequisite courses or fulfill any other requirements for admission to graduate school
