LM was recruited on a full scholarship. For no apparent reason, coach will not play him. Has talked to coach many many times. What to do? Stuck given scholarship and not being able to afford tuition. All He wants to do is play the sport he was recruited for.
Has he spoken with the coach about what steps can be taken that would result in playing time? That is his first step. Unfortunately being recruited doesn’t always mean playing time.
Not sure what this means. Are you saying that you won’t be able to afford the school next year if the scholarship is not re-upped?
Agree on talking to coach as first step. Talk to assistants if the head coach isn’t helpful. Not complaining about PT, but asking where improvement is needed.
I’d be surprised if the coach is silent about this. What is the coach actually saying?
Sometimes there are just better players. That’s part of sport. Happens to recruited athletes all the time.
If not happy, the transfer portal is an option now, as is transferring and playing the sport recreationally, club, etc
Anyone getting a full scholarship is projected to be an impact player. So something doesn’t add up. The coach may not be transparent. The kid might not be coachable. No way to tell from here on the internet. The only thing the athlete can do is talk to the coach and ask what the player needs to do to get more playing time. And then do that.
What sport and year is the athlete?
Lots of freshmen sit on the bench. Playing time is never guaranteed.
Texas has three QBs who all want to be the starter, and one is Arch Manning, the number one recruit in 2022.
Many freshmen get no playing time. It’s not unusual for that to change as older players graduate. He should practice hard and talk to the coach about what he should focus on improving.
I know kids who became starters with zero minutes of playing time in prior seasons.
It probably depends on whether it is an equivalency or head count sport. A full boat on a men’s soccer team is a big deal. but there are 13 (?) men on full scholarship on most DI basketball teams. Coaches just don’t go that deep into their roster for their normal playing time rotation. There are probably at least 3 or 4 guys on most basketball teams who have a full scholarship but get close to zero playing time.
What sport? For many team sports many athletes don’t see any significant playing time until their junior year with the first two years being about getting bigger and better while learning the system.
For individual sports and timed sports your athlete should know exactly where he sits relative to his teammates so there really shouldn’t be ambiguity.
If they were recruited as a ‘practice player’ they should expect to see little to no time over their college career since their role is to make the starters better. But, those recruits typically aren’t on scholarship.
