Hi,
I am a recruited Denison athlete. My GPA is 3.2, but I have taken 10 AP and 11 honors courses. Does being a recruited athlete improve my admissions chances? And, are admissions committees notified about a recruited athlete?
Are you talking with the coach? This is info they will share with you.
If you could be a fit for the team and the school, the coach will ask admissions to do an academic pre-read. If admissions gives the green light, the coach can offer you support thru the admissions process…in that case admission would be highly likely. Coaches do NOT offer all green lit pre-read students full coach support, they take the students they most want. And of course not all students receive a green light from admissions as a result of the pre-read.
It sounds like you are in recruiting talks, but do not yet have an offer (which is normal, most d3 schools start making offers in the late Spring or over the summer and into the Fall of Senior year, depending on the sport and the school).
What you will want to hear from the coach is 1. The offer of a spot on the roster and 2. The offer of support with admissions. “We would love to have you on the team” is not an offer.
If you do get an offer you can ask the coach how many recruits s/he supported got in/didn’t get in.
Have you had a pre-read?
Are you a junior or senior? Denison needs a verbal actual offer and three full years of grades for the pre read. They do provide a likely letter if you have the offer and pass the preread.
What sport?
