i am a sophmore in emory, and i am planning to major in econ/math joint degree. i know that our business school is very famous. But in in terms of recruitment is that such a big difference between econ and business kids. There are kids in econ department that is way smarter than the business kid. that just like discrimination.

From what I’ve seen, a lot of companies exclusively hire from the business school. Which is a shame since many people go into the business school almost solely to make money. In contrast, math majors actually like math (and are much better at it than the business school kids + the stuff taught in a BBA curriculum can be picked up pretty fast).
Also, the consensus I’ve gleaned from people is that the joint degree doesn’t delve too deep into math or economics. I suggest double majoring instead.

In the longterm math will prepare you better for analytical work, I think math will take you further. I would take some basic electives in the business school.

Take a look at the Career Center postings this fall, and see if that helps you make up your mind.

Econ and Math as double majors, preferably with Honors in Econ, sounds like a good choice.
