Recs and Extracurriculars?

I am intensely involved in community service, having founded my own organization in my school as well as being very involved in tutoring for the National Honor Society as one of it’s leading members. I have three recs: One from a guidance counselor who doesn’t really know me that well because he has so many students, he just knows about my involvement in music and the arts. My second is from the NHS moderator, so he’ll write about my involvement with them, and my third is from a teacher who has sometimes been involved in our service activities. The problem is I don’t think each one knows much about my activities with the other so one won’t really write about my service and the other probably won’t write about my NHS involvement. As long as at least one teacher talks about each of the activities I’m most involved with, will that be enough to confirm my involvement with colleges? I’m concerned that adcoms might not believe what I put down on the activities sheet if all three don’t mention everything. Bottom line: Is one teacher’s confirmation of the activity substantial enough for adcoms?

This is good. Your recs shouldn’t necessarily all tell the same story. Admissions officers don’t want to hear the same thing over and over again; they want the full picture. If the full picture has three components, each with someone who can best testify to that component, that’s what you should submit in terms of recs.

Each rec should bring new information and a new perspective to the table. Superfluous paper is generally not appreciated.
