Will the red book be enough to raise my previous score to at least a 28 composite (or even better a 30 composite) in about 3 months?

Composite 25
English 24
Reading 23
Math 25
Science 29
Combined Writing/English 23
Writing 8 (lone score)

Practicing with the red book will definitely help you get more comfortable with the ACT, but if you want to raise your composite by five points, I wouldn’t rely on that book alone- get a copy of Princeton Review’s Cracking the ACT, and go through the English and Math sections because those are, in my opinion, the easiest sections to improve on. Good luck :)

I can only respond using my own experience, but I found the red book was absolutely sufficient for me to go from a 32 to a superscored 36/single sitting 35. It takes time, determination and long term mental endurance, but steady preparation made test day a success for me. I cut myself short a couple minutes on each practice test so that I was used to the time pressure and pacing myself.

However, my lower first score was not a lack of conceptual understanding but rather an unfamiliarity with the test format.

Good luck!
