I want to know if writing more reflection about myself in my commonapp essay works? I had a life-changing event but I am afraid that if i do not talk more about the event, I will not be able to engage the adcom. But I got some suggestions to reflect oneself more in an essay. It may help adcom understand who I am. But clearly, I want to write an event but I am afraid that if i don’t narrate more about it, i will not be able to engage the adcom.

That’s what all of us are facing right now. Your essay NEEDS an event and a reflection of who you are. So just tell your story, and then reflect a little at the end. The adcom will get a gist of who you are just from your story. Your reflection paragraph will just show more clearly to him/her of what you learned from the event.

what is my essay is not talking about an event. For eg, talking about a hobby/ habit. In this case, should I focus more on my reflection as I will not have a specific event to describe it.
