Do all Cornell applicants get access to alumni interviews? I am wondering if interview invitations are issued out automatically to applicants who have filed their applications in early or to applicants that the university has a strong interest in.

it has to do with your location and which school you are applying to if they offer you an alumni interview. i would assume they wouldnt waste their time with an interview if they weren’t going to accept you anyway.

It is not true that Cornell wouldn’t “waste their time with an interview if they weren’t going to accept you anyway”. Cornell tries to make alumni interviews available to as many students who apply as possible. Unfortunately, there simply aren’t enough alumni volunteers available in some places to interview every candidate. There is absolutely no correlation between who gets an alumni interview and who will be accepted.

Do not stress out if you do not get a call for an alumni interview. If you do get a call, do the interview. It is a great opportunity to express yourself in a different way than allowed by the application form. Let the alumni interviewer know something about you that you didn’t mention or that didn’t come across in your application. The alumni interviewer will indeed file a report with the admissions office about your meeting. Most of all, ask the alumni interviewer all of your questions about Cornell. Take advantage of the opportunity.

The above quote is correct.

I am the chair of a Cornell Alumni Admissions Ambassador Network committee, and I assign the local applicants to a volunteer alum who in turn contacts the applicant to offer a meeting.

I have the intention of making sure that all area applicants are offered a meeting. When I do applicant meetings, I bring along my copy of the Viewbook, a book of Cornell photographs, some printed information from the Cornell website (Profile of Class of 2010, IB/AP credits, Bio bulletin, etc.), a Cornell course catalog, etc.

I have perused the Cornell website, so that even if I don’t know the answer to a question, I try and research it after our meeting so I can e-mail the applicant with the information.
