<p>They do. They try their best to pick people who they think will succeed - why would you purposely try to screw your numbers up by picking kids who will bomb out? Problem is that without ever meeting and talking to applicants, it can be hard to determine who will do well at NYU and who won’t. So I think the adcom is doing the best it can.</p>
