Regarding Tech/Sound and Light/etc...

Hey all.

I was involved (read: Crue Chief) of my high school’s sound and light crew. In addition to setting up for and running shows in the auditorium, I also oversaw any event that needed sound (microphone, speakers, music system, etc.) or light in the school gym/cafeteria.

I searched the database of UP clubs and organizations, but didn’t turn up any group that did that. My brother is on A/B Tech at CMU, and I was wondering if there was anything similar at Penn State. Is there a central Tech group, or is it largely by venue?

Thanks,
mleone10

I think it is by venue or performance group. I had some friends who did tech for Penn State Thespians, I had another friend who did tech at BJC. To my understanding, all the paid positions (including part-time student gigs) were associated with venues, while all the student performing groups had their own volunteer (usually) tech crews so that they were venue-independent.

I would start thinking about what kind of groups you would like to work with and contact them, or (if you are looking for a job in this) contact BJC, Schwab, and Eisenhower and see how they take people.

Alright, thanks. I’ll definitely look into it.
