Regarding thesis placement in SAT essays.

I’ve heard conflicting ideas regarding where to place one’s thesis for the essay.

For students who have had success with the essay, do you generally place the thesis at the very beginning (opening sentence) or at the end of the introduction? I’ve heard that it’s better to put it at the end of the intro, but I also feel as if it’s better to make it your first sentence as it will grab the reader’s attention and it will assure that there is no uncertainty on where you stand on the question.

Not to discourage others from answering, but I’m pretty much aiming this question at students who score in the 10-12 range consistently.

Thanks.

I put the thesis statement as my first sentence. I follow the 12 Essay in 10 Days method.

Oh, and I got 11 on my essay.

I put it at the end of the first paragraph. I got a 10, the only reason it wasn’t higher was I had some pretty annoying grammatical inconsistencies that I didn’t have time to change.

I don’t think it really matters, as long your essay in total is good they shouldn’t care about the thesis placement.
