Regents' and Chancellor's Scholarships?

My daughter received an acceptance for UC Berkeley for engineering. I’ve read about the Regent’s and Chancellor Scholarships. Can anyone apply for those? She is out of state.

If I read correctly, it sounds like the students are automatically enrolled and notified if they are candidates upon acceptance?

First, congratulations to your daughter. The scholarships are by invitation only and if she’s invited, there should be a link on the bottom of the acceptance letter. My understanding is most candidates are in state.

@968Mom : Congratulations to your daughter on the acceptance! If she has been selected as a candidate for RCS, she would know it already. There should be a link below the acceptance letter on MAP@Berkeley: “R&C Scholarship Information - February 10, 2017.” A subset of the 2000 accepted applicants just notified have been invited to interview for the scholarship, but not all. Of those who interview, only about 200 will actually receive the scholarship. Even if your daughter doesn’t, it’s still a remarkable achievement to be admitted to Cal in Engineering.

Congrats to you daughter for getting into Cal! As everyone has said, you would have heard by now if she was being considered for either of these. And, yes, only a small percentage go to out of state/international. Just like admissions applications, they review potential RCS students holistically, so it’s not just on pure stats. The RCS $ and perks (priority registration for classes, guaranteed housing for 4 years, mentors, etc.) ARE very nice, so all kudos to those who are selected. Scholastically, no guarantee those students will be the curve busters. D (non-RCS) was a bit dazzled by the RCS kids she knows, until she found out that she has a higher GPA than one and is keeping pace with the others. After all, only 200 or so are selected for RCS each year out of the thousands of very smart freshmen admitted.

Oh well! But thank you for all the kind words!
