<p>I’m currently a part-time freshman majoring in journalism at Purdue Calumet and I’m curious as to what the process of transferring from Purdue Calumet to Purdue West Lafayette is. Purdue Calumet is a regional, or “feeder campus”, to the parent campus in West Lafayette. I plan on attending the Calumet campus for my first year or two and then transfer to the West Lafayette campus after that to finish my degree.</p>
<p>Most of my questions are aimed at the transfer process, but I also have one or two that touch on other areas that I hope you don’t mind me asking here.</p>
<p>First off, how exactly does the transfer process go? I was given a very vague answer to this question during admissions that was basically summed up as, “Yes, you will be able to transfer to the main campus,” but was not given a timetable or step-by-step explanation. So here are my questions: </p>
<p>How soon can I transfer? I’m in no hurry, but I would like a ballpark timetable.</p>
<p>Is it easier/guaranteed to get accepted into a parent campus from a regional campus as opposed to applying to the main campus from the onset?</p>
<p>If not, will I need to retake the SAT/ACT test and is a specific score required?</p>
<p>Are there other requirements, academic or otherwise, that I would need to achieve in order to transfer? (i.e. certain GPA, specific classes needed to have taken, minimum amount of hours attended at regional campus, etc.)</p>
<p>How does the financial aid aspect factor into this? If I’m currently being awarded most of the FAFSA benefits at the regional campus, will that still apply to the main campus?</p>
<p>Now I have a few questions that aren’t directly related to the transfer process, but are relevant to a transfer student.</p>
<p>I’ll explain my current situation first.</p>
<p>At the moment, I’m commuting to school, I have only two classes per week this semester, and it takes me roughly 45 minutes to an hour to get to campus. Next semester I plan on living in the student housing as a way to get used to living on my own and without my parents, sort of as preparation to the eventual move to West Lafayette.</p>
<p>Do you think this is a good course of action to prevent the culture shock and whatnot of being immersed in a whole new community on my own and not knowing anyone?</p>
<p>Is the experience of living in student housing at a regional campus comparable to living in student housing at a parent campus? </p>
