I plan on signing up for five classes and having all of them be Tues and Thurs.

Intro to College Writing
8:10AM - 9:30AM

Macro Economics
9:40AM - 11:00AM

Micro Economics
11:10AM - 12:30PM

Intro to Business
3:10AM - 5:00PM

Principles of Accounting
5:30PM-7:20PM

This is my first year, so I’m at a loss for what to expect. Do you think there will be any major problems with this schedule? I live quite a ways from the institution and feel this will provide a much more relaxing commute.

I know several people who do this, including myself. I make my schedules so I have more classes TuTh than any other day and it’s REALLY nice to have time off the other days. You’ll probably be glad you did it.

I am doing the same thing, with the exception of a class that meets online during Saturday morning. Cramming will not do much good if one is concerned about tests. My strategy with tests is to make sure one knows the material as one goes along so the studying to prepare for the test will just be a review.

Worst case: bring your concern to the professor; the worst he can say is ‘no’.

If you’re commuting from far then it’s probably not a bad idea. Except for the earliest class. It’s hell trying to get to campus at 8 AM. You have to wake up so much earlier because of traffic. Plus you have to consider…are you going to feel like even discussing creative writing at 8:10 in the morning? Let alone possibly writing stories and editing and all. But who knows, writers get inspired at all kinds of random times.

Is it possible to take one of these classes online?

I second the online class proposal, but right before the beginning of the semester, they are likely filled.

That said, the 8:00 class does not look like creative writing; if it is some BS course, it can be taken at 8 no problem. If I can whip the London markets like rented mules at 4AM, OP can BS a class at 8.

Uuuuugh 8am to 7pm is really going to suck. I’ve scheduled all TR classes before but my schedule went 9-3-- THAT was very doable and very nice. I’m not sure what good it would do you to schedule your classes this way because you’re going to be so burnt out and cranky on your days off they won’t even be worth anything.

ETA:

However, academics inside, I think you’re right that it would make the commute a little more tolerable. I had three hours in the car every day this summer and it was very unpleasant.

I’m surprised most people here don’t mind 5 classes on Tues/Thurs. Granted you’ll be completely free on M/W/F/Weekends to get your work done and hang out but don’t you think maybe you’ll burn out by having to take 5 classes a day?

I would love being free MWF. I have most of my classes Tues and Thurs, I go to all four of them from 11AM to 5:30PM. Alas, one of my classes is every day, but at least it’s not till 1.

You get a 3 hour break. This schedule is wonderful. You’ll have 3-day weekends weekly. On Tuesday and Thursday you’ll be tired at the end of the day, but you’ll be able to rest easy knowing that you have all of tomorrow or the weekend free. I would have killed for a schedule like this.
