Registering for AP classes in the middle of the year

Hello! So, I’m a Junior, want to go to an ivy league or college abroad. I always had a difficult time in High School. It just felt like a big day care. I want to go to college and excel in life, not sit in a High School all day. Anybody else feel like this?

Anyways, after coming back from studying abroad (I really want to go back there…best experience of my life) I registered at my local High School at the beginning of the year. I was signed into not-so-great classes (such as environmental science instead of chemistry). I wanted to change these classes and take AP classes after a few weeks, but they wouldn’t let me and said it was too late.

Then, I decided to leave the school and do Keystone online High School (I’ve done it before), but to this point never registered yet and am still thinking about things (keep in mind that…it’s just really difficult coping with leaving after studying in Japan.) The thing is, I guess I can study and be independent with Keystone, but I HATE sitting at home.

I guess the only option is to study, study, study and join AP classes to prepare for college. I feel much better in school doing AP classes and actually being more challenged. However, I talked with the school and they said it’s too late to register. I understand that the classes are made to prepare for the AP test, and it’s already December, but why not still join those classes over regular ones?

Even if I don’t take the test would there be a big difference? The thing is I think I feel much better (and better for college) taking the top classes. I don’t get it and am pretty lost. Help me out here! Thank you so much.

They don’t want a student to join late, do poorly, and drop their average. Just self study them.

I understand. Thanks for the reply! I’m just not sure what to do. I’m already a junior and haven’t taken any AP classes yet.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

If you want to be competitive for decent schools, you need at least a few AP’s done by the end of junior year.

This is why I want to take AP classes. Part of the reason I came to school a little late (besides leaving earlier) was because of my exchange abroad. Instead of taking a random elective that wastes time, I want to take AP Psychology. They say it’s too late to register.

I’ll give them a call Monday to discuss it further. Can you advise me with what to do? Thanks.

For AP psych, just self study. The class is a waste of time. Go buy the PR and memorize the vocab words. It’s one of the easiest 5’s out there.

So my other problem is online school vs public High School. I like classes, going out and not sitting at home. However, my school doesn’t have a dual enrollment option.

If school was more flexible, such as college, it would be perfect. But going to school and taking classes I love and know are helping me for the future is good enough for now. What do you recommend? Thanks

^ I will also self study for the AP exam (since it’s already December and obviously I missed the beginning of the classes)

But the thing is, if I don’t take this class, the school will just give me a random elective in it’s place. They require me to be there for a full day. I need to convince them to allow me to join AP classes and other valuable classes. Or if there’s another option right now? Such as boarding/community college schools?

I doubt anything would be much better for university realistically (right now) rather than taking the best classes at a public high school
