registering for classes

when do we register for classes?

See: The Blue Book

You should have your student ID by now. On the registrar’s site (registrar.duke.edu), they tell you your window based on the last two digits of your student ID. IIRC for freshmen it is as follows:

94-26: First window July 10
27-59: Second window July 11
60-93: Third window July 12

I am confused about the range of numbers for the first window. Will 25 be in the first window?

yes, congrats on first window.

don’t be too upset if you don’t have 1st window … it rotates each semester

Ouch, ouch…third window…damn, I hope this doesn’t mean I have to wake up at 8AM for class.

so what’s the likelihood of getting the 4 courses we want if 3 of them are intro-classes and the other’s a seminar?

My number is 70 so that places me in the third window, correct?

DeltaRoyale: it depends on the seminar… some are more popular than others. intro classes usually aren’t that bad. We had problems with the intro to public policy course over the past two years because they were changing the major (which they did completely incorrectly, if you ask me… but I might just be upset because the changes screwed over me and the rest of the '09 PPS majors).

With intro classes, if there are extra parts (discussion or recitation sections), be sure to have multiple sections in your alternate bookbag, just in case the section you wanted happens to be popular.

FreshElephant: Yeah, you’re in the third window.

87 is third, right? Darn it!

Being third window is a bummer because you will be 2nd window second semester. It just means it is difficult to get a good writing 20. At least this was my personal expierence.

But you’ll be first window to register for fall class in the spring and that could potentially be useful.

Hi

Does 28 mean that I’m in a second window???

Yes for the upcoming fall 2007 class registrations

When registering for classes, do you normally have to rush through the process or is everybody just taking it chill by going slow? Like, if you’re thinking about a class and it’s not full yet, do you normally join it right away, in fear that it might be full later?

lol, I hope that made sense.

I’d rush. The difference of a few seconds can literally mean a difference of a few hundred places in the registration queue on the server.

join it right away.
also - i’m not sure if you’ve been on aces yet, but the night before you register have all four classes you want in your primary bookbag and hit ENROLL ALL. don’t do it class by class.

also - if a class is cross list in multiple departments, add all the cross lists to your secondary bookbag. just because its full in one department, doesn’t mean it’ll be full in all of them.
