I am a freshman planning to attend UConn in the fall and I would like to know some tips in registering for classes. I will be a Biological Sciences major, focusing on Pre-Dental.

As a freshman, what are the ideal classes I should take? Not so much what type of course, but how should I place my courses time-wise. I have always heard that people who register for classes earlier, get to have the time slots that best fit their schedules, and I would like to know what times are most desired by freshmen, and each grade there after.

Any other advice on classes, you wish you knew when you were a freshman, would also be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

The times desired by everybody tend to be about the same: no early classes (8am is a killer!) and no Friday/Thursday classes.

As a freshman, you really won’t have control over this, and as a bio major, you will definitely have 8 am or 9 am classes. There is the occasional person who actually likes early classes, but 98% of people will avoid them whenever possible. Incoming freshmen don’t count, because when I was an incoming freshman, I (and a lot of others) thought “I had to wake up early in high school, 8 am won’t be a problem” and “early is good because then you get classes out of the way and have the rest of the day to do things”. These ridiculous ideas are quickly dispelled, however, when you realize that the college lifestyle is very different and early classes suck. Unless you’re that rare person that really does like early classes.

Having Fridays off is also nice, but (depending on your major) not always possible.
