regret

Any parents here whose kids regret they chose Haverford? Too much stress due to very heavy workload especially for biology majors?

Any comments?
Thanks.

Nope. The kids that I know who went to Haverford loved it.

I know of students who are experiencing the stress of heavy workload, tough grading curve…

But it’s not at Haverford, and it’s not as a Bio major.

I don’t think any one school or major has a lock on that problem. I also think that two different students at the same school in the same major, taking the same coursework… could conceivably experience different levels of stress. They also could have different perspectives on whether they regret their choice or not.

My one friend who went to Haverford is the most rabidly enthusiastic and loyal alumnus of any school whom I know. It changed his life in hundreds of ways (for the better as far as he’s concerned, of course). He wasn’t a pre-med, though.

My doctor’s kid transferred out of Haverford after freshman year (the dad was heartbroken). I believe he ended up at Penn State. I don’t know why he was unhappy, I know he was a very good student.

A high school classmate of S is a rising junior at Haverford. Just ran into her mother - she loves it. Not a bio major, though.

Our Haverford friends LOVED it there. No stress. However, also not bio majors. I know plenty of kids majoring in the sciences or engineering at other schools where they are feeling the stress of not getting all A’s for the first time in their lives…and who are working their tails off. Not any go to Haverford. I agree…no school has a quorum on this.

My son loved his visit there too. In the end, he picked Grinnell, but not because Haverford wasn’t amazing–it was.

My son also loved his visit to Haverford and though he’s very happy at Grinnell, Haverford was his other strong favourite. Sounds very rigorous, but not any more stressful than other top schools. I know a lot of (older) alums who are intensely loyal & had wonderful, “life-changing” experiences there. I was very taken with the cricket team!

The boy I know just graduated with pre-med major–not sure if it was biology or not but it surely included some biology. This boy had to work for his successes but he loved it–as his two uncles had loved it.

Son just finished his freshman year. Worked his butt off for the first time in his life, and loved it.
