So Regular Decisions will be coming out in April…who’s nervous? raises hand me!! Why does Tufts accept so many deferred students? (just out of curiosity)

I don’t know about why Tufts does it, but to the outsider it looks like Yale accepts a lot of deferred students, but really those are mainly legacies. It is possible that this is the same with Tufts, but I do not have any idea.

raises hand tambien

I would guess that it is because tufts is really concerned w/ yield, and the people who are deferred ED clearly would choose tufts if they got in, so it makes the school more inclined to accept them.

mee…raises hand
and i believe carpe is right with the yield.

yeah…i’m nervous as well.
does anyone know exactly when the tufts decisions come out?
ex: northwestern SAYS their decisions will come out on april 15, but they actually will most likely send them out the last weekend in march…is there any sort of deal like this with tufts?

April 1st! What’s a yield? And also, my dad did a fellowship program with Tufts. Would he be considered an alumni? Well I guess so, because we got a letter saying they were pleased to have the child of a Tufts alumni apply…hm…I just don’t know if they are looking for UNDERGRADUATE legacies…?

im nervous!!! i applied ed to another school but was defferred, but really, i just want to get into one of my top three choices desperately (tufts being second). i loved all three schools when i visited, and i know id be really happy at any of them. tufts is in the best area for me - i hope they take me!

Where did you apply ED and what are your top 3 choices?

i applied to middlebury ed1…tufts and dickinson are my other top three.
i just got into my safety, Hobart and William Smith yesterday, so at least i’m in somewhere.

I am a tour guide at Tufts, and I remember people in Admissions saying that Tufts really value students’ interest. With that being said, I guess people who got deferred from ED are somewhat important to people in Admissions since they already showed a great interest to the school by applying early (and it’s early decision too not action). But, this is just my guess, I don’t know if it is true or not…

folle, it looks like you are going for languages/int’l studies. where else did you apply if you don’t mind my asking?

besides the four i already mentioned, i also applied to colby in maine. what about you?

midd, tufts, and dickinson like you. though my top choices are uva, gtown, unc-chapel hill, w&m, and penn state - schreyer honors college (accepted). also applied to texas cause it’s my dad’s alma mater. :]

You chose Penn, W&M, UNC, for IR over Tufts…I mean, I get G-Town…but those… ?

ha, well, it’s really a question of cost. i know tufts has a fantastic reputation in that field, but my parents are at this point only willing to pay that much for gtown (faculty of languages and linguistics). and at the penn state honors college i’d have a lot of the same opportunities in terms of study abroad etc.

social life is another factor that’s kind of pushing me towards the public schools.

i’m nervous!!! tufts is my #2 choice. i hope i get in, but tufts hasn’t taken anyone from my school in a couple of years. i mean, last year 7 people with competitive stats applied and all were flat out rejected. sigh

sorry to be nitpicky, but PENN is the University of Pennsylvania. Penn State is… penn state?

^ Yeah, I know, I thought he wrote U Penn, which is why it made even less sense to me for IR, heh.

It’s a she. lol
