Rejected by all Institutions, only waitlisted by two

Hi,

As a non-traditional international student, I applied to 21 schools (Amherst, Harvard, MIT, Yale, Dartmouth, Brown, Princeton, Bard, Colgate, Dickinson, Depauw, Grinnell, Trinity, Wesleyan, Vassar, F&M, Oberlin, Oxy, Richmond, Haverford, and SMCM) and got all rejections so far except Depauw, Colgate and SMCM which have not yet sent out their decisions.

However, I believe to know why they all have turned down my application: My age and my high need (I would need full aid covering tuition, room and board).

Only Grinnell and Trinity offered a place on the waitlist. Trinity, however, requires an additional essay (explanation why it is my first choice).

Well, it is my first choice as all other colleges whom I would have preferred over TrinColl by far have rejected me, even my beloved Amherst and Oxy.

I feel depressed and no enthusiasm about studying in the US any longer, so it is difficult to summon any positive aspirations or emotions regardingTrinity.

Should I be honest and tell Trinity that I have not got any other offer, or will that further ruin my (anyway non-existant) chances of being accepted from the waitlist?

Thanks a lot for any advice!

That would kill your chances, yea

I would take down your photo, if that’s your photo because schools are probably looking at your face right now and not enjoying hearing that you’re just not that into them. I understand your sadness and disappointment, but you don’t want to ruin your chances at your other schools. Trinity is a very good school. And, you know, maybe the more realistic choice. DePauw will probably accept, too. Vassar tends to not accept if you have messed up your high school years, regardless. So get cracking! Look at Trinity again. Look at the thread on this website to find out what people love about that school. It’s a darn good school and I’d say: go for it. Opportunity tends to look like work. Get working and bring in your opportunity. I would bet that you will find something about Trinity that really appeals to you. After all, they sensed something about you that feels like you may fit.

Put the other colleges out of your mind. Go to the Trinity website. Study the academics, courses that look unique and interesting, facilities info, and clubs and activities. Tell them it is your first choice, and these are some of the reasons you really want to attend.

A big bunch of thanks to all of you
