Rejected by Georgetown, is there still hope for Harvard?

I received a rejection letter from Georgetown today. I have a SAT score of 2010 (CR: 630 Math: 770 Writing: 610) and subject tests Math II: 800 Physics: 730 Chinese: 800 (My primary language) and I am also number 2 in my class. I am waiting anxiously for Harvard’s letter because of the rejection I got from Georgetown…

I will forever repeat this, but assuming you are within the range of good applicant/competitive application (not extravagantly amazing nor poor), there is an extreme degree of randomness in college admissions. To answer your question, yes.

Poor=poor applicant, not income. :P

Admissions is subjective in nature. Just don’t get your hopes up.

Those are some very weak scores to be honest…

I would not say very weak, but of a “lower average” nature. There is also the case of everything else he did.

^Not weak for the assessment of the student, just weak for a competitive Harvard applicant.

I would not call admissions random, but I will say you still have a chance. I was waitlisted at Georgetown and Wesleyan but accepted as an early write to Swarthmore and got the only merit scholarship at Bryn Mawr. I truly think it was all about fit. You could be a much better fit for Harvard than Georgetown.

I hope you applied to several more colleges besides Georgetown and Harvard you sincerely like and can see yourself attend. The chance of admission for any applicant is slim when the admission rate is so low, and those scores are not very strong.

I second this question…from a 31 act, 770 chem, 710 ush, 690m2, 4.0 gpa 32/448 class ranking, and a urm without dad and first gen, and what I think are strong ecs… I’m nervous.

I got rejected by RiceU… SO let’s see how things fare for Harvard. But I have read of people who have gotten rejected from mediocre school while they get accepted to even greater school. I am def not comparing Georgetown and HArvard, but just putting it out there. There’s hope for all of us.

Day after tomorrow, at this time, we will all know whether we got accepted or rejected! Ugh, the anxietyyy.

^^
Any rejection is not a good sign! LOL.
But what do you mean when you specifiy a Rice rejection to be a bad sign?

A Rice rejection is a bad sign . . . but not a conclusion. Life will go on and be special somewhere! You make the college, the college does not make you.

@ccuser18: Fair enough.
