Rejected from USC,UCLA but got into UCB on wait list

It really does not matter where your children get into as long as they graduate on time and have a decent job. I knew a kid who got flat out rejected from both USC and UCLA but got into UCB on a wait-list. Do you want to get into a school who thought that you were not good enough and placed on you on a hold?

?

Are you saying this person should turn down UCB because s/he was waitlisted and later admitted?

My D attended an amazing LAC where she was initially waitlisted, and later admitted. She chose to attend. She never felt she was second best or “not good enough”. Most selective schools could fill their entering class multiple times with incredibly qualified applicants.

So someone should turn down Stanford or Harvard or Yale bcos they were first wait listed? Is that your pov?

Most schools have more qualified applicants than seats. Being placed on a wait list (or being deferred from ED to RD) should not be construed as being less qualified. It means you made an impression that they want you but just don’t have enough space.

Waitlisted students are academically qualified to attend the college but the college just doesn’t have enough space to accept all of the qualified applicants. If the student got into UCB, wants to attend, and can afford the school there is absolutely no reason to decline an offer to come off the waitlist.

Yes! My DD17 was thrilled to get off the UCB waitlist and will be attending in the fall.

“Do you want to get into a school who thought that you were not good enough and placed on you on a hold?”

If that’s where you want to go to college then YES. They don’t stamp “Initially Wait-listed” on the diploma when you graduate. In fact, two weeks into the first semester everyone will have completely forgotten that you were ever on a waitlist.

I think I’m good enough for UCB but I got rejected. Too late though, wasn’t even planning on it and chose the far cheaper college and you can’t do second bachelors degrees at UCB
