Rejected from your school of choice at NYU?

What happens if you don’t get into the school of your choice at NYU? Do they refer you to another school? For instance, I’m applying to Stern regular decision this year, and I understand that it’s pretty competitive. If I don’t get into Stern, would NYU refer me to CAS, possibly? Or would they just leave it at rejection from NYU altogether without considering me at their other schools and departments?

This dumb question has been asked and answered many times before. If you get rejected from the NYU school you applied to, you are rejected from all and are not considered for anything else. The only exception is GSP, but you can’t apply to that.

^^ There is absolutely no reason to be rude to the OP, obviously they didn’t know this questioned had been answered.

To answer OP’s question:
Some qualifications at other schools are higher than at others, if NYU believes that your underqualified for one program, but are a match for another - they may put you in GSP.

“if NYU believes that your underqualified for one program, but are a match for another - they may put you in GSP.”

That is utterly false. If you get GSP, you may only transfer to the NYU school that you originally applied to, not another one. GSP is NOT something that NYU puts you into “if you’re underqualifed for one program but a match for another” like you seem to imply. Do your homework before answering questions.

Actually, it is “possible” (i.e. P > 0) to transfer to a school other than the one you originally applied to.

Don’t twist my words, child. The “other program” I was referring to IS GSP and you CAN transfer into another program if you want to - youa re only “GUARENTEED” admission into the one you applied to, you do YOUR homework, dear. Why don’t you atleast make sure you’re attempting to critique the correct theory before trying to hurling another one of your little temper tantrums, okay?

I agree with Jesminder. After GSP you have chances at any NYU school, you’re only guaranteed the one you applied to. I’m sorry ABirchIII, but you seem to be a very hostile person-- theres no need for this on a site designed to help others in the admissions process. And if we “did our homework,” there would be no need for us to log on here. So please, your hostility needs to stop.

ya jesminder is right.

Hostile? Sorry I didn’t know people had such brittle feelings, but this is well known, and it’s all over NYU’s board. It’s an obvious question with an obvious answer–you can’t apply to more than one NYU school.

Jesbinder:
A) The original question had nothing to with GSP.

B) People can interpret it however they want, but this is your exact quote: “Some qualifications at other schools are higher than at others, if NYU believes that your underqualified for one program, but are a match for another - they may put you in GSP.”

Thus, your quote implied, there were 3 separate programs-the underqualifed, the match, and GSP, but the fact remains if you’re in GSP, you’re only guaranteed a transfer to the NYU school you originally applied, not what NYU deems you a match for like you stated. Take it for what it’s worth–“child”.

No, the links you posted from the NYU boards only answers the question “May you apply to more than one NYU school” and not the original question of whether you’ll be provided with another program which means you only apply ONE TIME. Obviously, this is College Confidential NOT the NYU Board which suggests that some may not know this board exits. I know I didn’t until very recently. And there are plenty of multiple posts on one question-- the “if you don’t get into NYU where else-- list your other college’s” post is one example. Theres no time to search the entire database for your question. And please refrain from vulgar statements like “This is a dumb question” or “do you homework before stating something” or “A lack of planning on your part is not an emergency of mine…” or whatever else you’ve said in the past. Note: These are not your exact word for word quotes, but very identially similar. All I’m saying is theres no need for this…if you think its dumb or stupid, just refrain from commenting altogether.

The original question may not have been about GSP, but you mentioned it first and then whined because someone didn’t phrase a sentence to your liking, really, it’s people that have no lives that feel the need to pick apart the phrasing of something…Implications are suggested by the writer, if Jesminder is saying she didn’t say that, why are you still hung up on it?

And as for having brittle feelings , you are being hostile as Micheeatsfish said, it only makes you look stupid. The original topic did not require such a ridiculous answer from you.

It’s amazing how you can say Jesminder’s “exact quote”, yet you can’t even spell the username right when it’s right in front of you… Seeing as how you like to pick apart stupid things, I thought I’d point one out to you.

Just admit you’re wrong and move on, its not that serious. You only look a fool right now.

Ok, kids, if you’re finished yelling at one another, I’ll take a shot at answering the question. The simple answer is no. You may only apply to one school, and if you’ve applied to Stern, and are rejected, no, they will not offer you a spot at CAS.

Just because people are in disagreement does not mean they are “yelling”, I have yet to see people master the art of yelling online via text. If we are yelling, then we should recieve an award of some sort for beating the laws of science, kid.

haha lovely another argument on CC
we were talking about the drinking one at the meet up yesterday
happy to know that I wasn’t the only one amused

Good for you, want a cookie?

yes! how did you know?

Haha, what a thread this has become. Thanks to all who answered my question though, and sorry for bringing up a topic that has already been asked many times, apparently… I usually do go search for old posts, but it was in my search that I came across some guy who said he didn’t make CAS, but was reconsidered for Steinhardt or something. I probably just misunderstood what he was saying. And thanks for my defense… haha…

As far as GSP is concerned, you’re only guaranteed a transfer to the NYU school you first applied to as a freshmen. While it is possible to transfer to other schools via GSP, it’s usually very rare and by no means a given. The moral of the story is to apply to the NYU school you want to attend since there aren’t many backdoors.

if you’re rejected and not GSP’d, you can’t be referred to another school

which is exactly what ABirch said.
