Rejected solely because my SAT scores were not sent?

I applied to a school that I would consider a safety school - long story short, I was going to JHU but it would be more cost effective for me to go to this local one as I could commute etc. and my scores are generally above average…

When I got rejected I was really confused, I’m not being snobby but I was really confused! I go to this school as a non-degree student, and had recommendation letters from the schools own faculty, and I’m generally doing pretty well volunteering etc. with this school. I went to the admissions officers in person to ask what happened, they said they did not get my SAT scores.

I checked collegeboard, and I did pay to have them sent. They did this with my application to UMD as well, where I had to call several times to have it resent.

What should I do???

Do you want to go there? If so, set up an appointment with the admissions officer with your collegeboard materials and transcript from the school and show them that your SAT scores were sent and that there must have been some mistake there, and request to be reconsidered. Let those faculty members who gave your recs know what happened as well, and ask if they can put in a good word here.

They said they would not reconsider me as the fall semester is full. I’m going to speak to those faculty members, but the university I applied to says that it’s not collegeboards fault but my own for not having checked online to ensure all materials were received. This is a valid point but I still feel a bit cheated, considering I paid CB to send me scores and we all rely on this service??

Also, the school itself is alright, the biggest appeal was that I lived in the area and could commute. I can’t afford JHU and I’d really like to go to med school someday. Studying abroad is not an option.

I got in to 2 great universities abroad and would hardly be paying more than 15k but I know that medical schools aren’t too impressed by foreigners (although I am a greencard holder, I’d be graduating from international schools if I went and studied abroad)

“greencard holder”

Before you enroll for full-time university study outside the US, have a nice, long, chat with your immigration lawyer about what effect that might have on your status. Can you continue in non-degree status for another semester at your current university and become a regular student in the spring? Or what about a semester off from classes entirely? You could get a paying job for a bit and/or keep up the volunteer stuff.

You may want to reconsider completing an undergrad degree (in bio? chem?) outside the US, and then coming back for med school. Med school is a direct admit in many other countries. It would probably be more time and cost effective to do that, and then take the foreign med boards here upon return.
