Rejected

Rejected (IS w/ 2260 SAT 4.3 W 3.1 UW)

I applied to the Thomas Wolfe Scholarship… my friend said concerning my rejection:

“You know that this decision can be repealed if you get the people from the Wolfe scholarship to vouch for your writing. They mentioned that they can use your submissions to validate your claim to a spot in the freshman class.”

Any idea on the validity of that statement?

Say, for instance, my 1 in 100 chance of being selected for the Thomas Wolfe Scholarship actually happens, would UNC reevaluate my application based on this? It was to my understanding that, in layman’s terms, a rejection means a rejection no matter how you roll the dice. Does anyone know?

I’m guessing that your 3.1 UW GPA is what hurt you. A high SAT with a low GPA can send the wrong signal- that perhaps you underachieved or are just a good test taker.

I’d also guess that admissions probably lets the TW people know that you have been denied admission.

Again, just a guess, but I think the GPA/SAT disparity is the reason for your denial.
