Rejection from UCSD and UCSB = Rejection from USC?

I’m officially losing hope…I mean to be fair…I kinda saw it coming because I only had one SAT II that UCs would accept (I did Math I, but they only accept Math II)…so yeah. I mean I know SD is like hard to get into…but I thought SB might give me a break…naive? Maybe. But I guess I’m too optimistic…I did get that e-mail from UCLA though asking for “supplemental information” though…

Anyway…does this spell out rejection at USC? The two kids who got into USC at my school both got into SD and SB. Ahhhhhhhh!

I seem to have better luck at private schools though…U of Miami gave me almost half tuition and Tulane, well I got an acceptance. Both of those were my safeties.

Thing is I mean of course I’m bummed about SD and SB…but what I’m REALLY bummed about is if this means I have no shot at USC, my number one!

What do you guys think? =S

The UCs are pretty strict about the SAT II requirements, so that may have been a big factor in your denial from SD and SB.
I don’t think you should rule out USC at this point at all.

Another thing is that you’re an international? Harder to get into UCs as a non Calif resident. Not so for USC.

Thanks Sequoia…man, I love you guys on CC haha…

Also, the UC schools (excluding Cal & UCLA) use this STUPID point system, and the SAT II score accounts for up to 800 points of your overall score. So failing to submit an acceptable SAT II will put you at a loss of a potential 800 points… but USC loves their international students, so good luck! (And they dont have a stupid point system, and don’t require SAT IIs so don’t worry.)

And you probably lost out on SD and SB cuz you’re international. If you say that two others from your school got accepted, they probably dont want to accept anymore.
UC’s hate internationals compared to USC

no way. UCs are tough on out-of-staters and even more so on internationals. That and their screwy UC GPA is why I’m more confident about getting into USC than Cal. Plus SAT IIs are one of the most important factors for the UC system wheras USC doesn’t require them.

PS: I only applied to four UCs and USC (well and the University of Kansas but that’s in the case I don’t want to go away from home so fast), so I think I’m pretty reliable about this :)

Well, let me just say that I’m out of state and I got into UCSD and UCSB.
My friend who has higher stats than me (National Merit Finalist) didn’t get into EITHER.

I know for a fact that UCSD multiplies the SAT scores by 0.8 and the UC GPA by 1000, making the SAT score worth almost close to nothing in comparison to the GPA, so really, don’t dwell, I’m sure you’re a WONDERFUL candidate, and USC LOVES their international students… they even get to stay in the New dorms (so unfair). Haha, my friend’s roommate runs cross-campus every morning to the new dorms /w the international students because apparently the cafeteria there is better than the cafeteria in the freshmen dorms at USC.

I thought the New dorms were open for everyone…

They are, but a lot of the kids that stay there are international students. It’s really your choice, which one would you rather stay at?

hhmm…I dont wanna leave my country and end up with people from my own country…
But i guess its a personal choice

Are you an international student?

Yup. Im from India

My s is a freshman in New right now. It is a very diverse population there. He is from Southern California, and some of his friends from HS are in his dorm. His roommate is from Texas. They hang out with kids in their dorm from all across the US, as well as international students from Sri Lanka, Mexico, and ?.

i got rejected by UCSD and accepted by UCSB & USC! so don’t worry!

The UCs have been really weird this year. People with amazing stats have been rejected. USC seems to look more at a whole person. Don’t even sweat it :)

France, are you from the States doing a study abroad? How about the two school mates that got in? It seems there are a lot of people with international ties applying. My daughter is spending part of this year in France and part in Tokyo.

suenos53:

I am from the States however I have lived overseas my entire life. The two kids who got in are also American, however have lived in the States most of their lives. In fact, I think one of them is actually a Californian resident. Anyway, that’s great about your daughter…which part of France is she going to stay in?

Don’t worry. Especially if you’re not in-state.
