Rejection Letter - Ccm

That’s so wonderful for you daughter! Did you ask them to re-evaluate her audition CD or did they just do it automatically?

They just did it!

What a viol pun. Bass indeed. (I should kick myself for that one right now.)

BassDad,

???

Great Linnlew. Keep us posted on the outcomes!!

Linnlew- Congrats to both of you. Good luck.

On your ??? to BassDad, if you reread posts #58, 59& 63 you’ll understand. A few of us have a hard time not swinging at a hanging curve ball. :)

Terrific!! I wonder if there were many questions/calls to Admissions that caused them to look at the whole picture and look again at all the soprano CD’s? If you ever hear the "whole “story”, it might be helpful to others to know what happened. It seems like there isn’t a lot transparency to the whole process and the mysteriousness doesn’t help young musicians to develop. It’s one thing if you know you auditioned better at one one venue than another so the outcomes have some rhyme or reason, but when there doesn’t seem to be an explanation for an outcome the student can’t even take away a good learning experience.

S had an an important audition for an orchestral position this fall that he was well prepared for and was convinced he played well. Another student from his teacher’s studio was selected for the opportunity - he received a rejection. Knowing the other student’s playing, he didn’t understand what had happened. At the urging of a former teacher (major sypmphony player), he asked for and received feedback from one of the auditioners - things he wouldn’t have been aware of. What a help! He was still very disappointed, but took the criticism in and is playing better now, 3 months later, than ever. Without the former teacher, S wouldn’t have known that it is OK to ask for feedback and that you might even get an answer!

Sorry for the personal diversion. That’s just great news for you D and her mom! Best of luck to all concerned!

Linnlew - congratulations to your D. I’m sure she’s thrilled. Just getting the audition is a major punch-up to her confidence. Maybe she needed the rejection first to truly appreciate the re-call.

As for Bassdad and Violadad, measure for measure, they can be real useful people to have around, even when their humor is base, vile, and otherwise discordant. ;)

Linnlew, WOW, just goes to show you that being a CC member must have its special “aura” perks not to mention that they must have felt she was very talented… Please keep us updated as to the results.

Just a dad in Oh, Frankly, you can’t go by the tour guide in evaluating any school. These are usually kids that have qualified for a Need-based work/study program and, thus, do tours. They are usually not well- trained, and are taken solely because of their economic need. Thus, you get a “hit or miss” type of situation with guides.

You will notice that violadad said that we could not resist swinging. That says absolutely nothing about our ability to produce hits.

The juxtaposition of baseball and classical music just begs for a link to [Music Joke Number 336 - Seattle](http://www.music-jokes.co.uk/full-music-joke-336.html) for the three people in the known universe who have not already heard music joke #336.

Thumper1,

Thanks! I will keep you posted on the outcome!

BassDad and ViolaDad,

Thanks! I think I have you all figured out now!

MusicianMom,

I am not sure what happened and I probably will never know the entire story, but if I do I will let you know!

I am glad things are going better for your Son. I am sure each audition will be a learning experience and they will probably get better by number 6. Too bad Cincy will be D’s first one! Oh well, she has a little over 1 week to prepare and I can hear her downstairs sininging right now. She knows this is quite the opportunity!

Thank you for the kind words!

Thanks, Binx. I am beginning to understand the humor of those two! I was a little perplexed at first. Thanks for filling me in!

Taxguy,

Yes, I think CC has brought us some luck. D realizes somebody is looking out for her! She is every excited.

I wanted to tell you that I think Just Dad has a sense of humor and was just joking about his CCM tour guide. When we visited there we had a really cute girl who was a music edu/voice major. She had transferred to CCM from Shenandoah Conservatory and she was quite informative. I did laugh at Just Dad’s humor about his tour guide!

I will fill everyone in after the audition!

TAXGUY - I agree 100% that it’s hit or miss with the guides. We’ve had great ones, interesting ones and that one from CCM - not the person that LINNLEW was with…

LINNLEW - sense of humor? Nah not at all  Though when I think of all the things we’ve been through on this adventure so far - even the speeding tickets are now funny. The cold pasta thrown all over the commons area at the “music kids dorm” during the music day tour at BGSU - not really so funny

as for the story - it’s true - you could sense this student was leaving a bad taste with many in attendance that day. When I asked her if she was studying anything else besides music she exclaimed - of course!! - Greek studies - with an emphasis on Narcissus - ok you caught me - that part I made up…

Good Luck with CCM!!

Sometimes it’s hard to produce even when one is given (the) perfect pitch.

I waited. Since yesterday. Honestly. No one else wanted to step up to the plate. ;)

I think binx said it all. Haha. Witty girl. I don’t have a dog in the race since my kid is in a non-audition BA program. But I check in for the silly string section and to hear how all the kids are doing.

I have big news from freshman year. DS area of concentration is composition (even with big shock in theory grade – one course combination of theory and musicianship and hard.) He is still pursuing performance and has switched his instrument from violin to piano! He’s played piano since 4, violin since 7 and felt violin was the way to go. But he’s made more progress on piano not taking lessons and not practicing than he has vigorously working on violin. He realizes he loves piano more and it will be more helpful in composition. He will continue to play in orchestra and sing in choir, but will add piano/chamber groups. This is big news for him.

Wow, Mythmom…it sound like you have one talented Son!

You are lucky right now that you do not have “a dog in the race” because it is very hectic!

Glad your S has found his place!!!
