Was there a sequence of black-sharpie-looking slashes on the bottom left of the backside of anyone else’s rejection letter envelope? Mine has one, and I’d hate to think that they would be disorganized enough to have to keep track of the rejection envelopes to be mailed by looking for the ones with black sharpie streaks on the back. That’s the kind of organizational ineptitude I would expect from…the U.S. Postal Service, but surely not an institute such as Rice.

I wouldn’t read into any stray marks you find on the envelope. If I did that, I’d have to come to the conclusion that the US Postal Service really despises me and wishes me harm.

Sorry about your outcome. Good luck with your other options!
