Welcome to the UCSD admissions information Web site for Fall 2007 undergraduate applicants. After a thorough and careful review of your application for admission to the University of California San Diego, we must regretfully inform you that it is not possible to offer you admission for Fall 2007. However, in light of your academic commitment, and your interest in our campus, we offer you the unique opportunity to participate in the Dual Admissions Program. Please refer to your letter and contract for further details.

just curious to see if these rejections are automated

Only some people are offered the Dual Admissions Program, if they’re “between the top 4 percent and 12.5 percent of their high school graduating class but were not eligible to attend UC as freshmen.” Other than that part, it looks like the rejections start pretty much the same way.

My (first) rejection letter: “Welcome to the UCSD admissions information Web site for Fall Quarter 2007 undergraduate applicants. We have carefully reviewed your records and regret that we cannot offer you admission to the University of California, San Diego. The selection process was very difficult this year as we had an excellent pool of competitive applicants. You will receive an official notification shortly.” is going to be forever burned in my brain.
In fact, I had a nightmare last night about it… :(
