what do y’all think of bennington students? do the two schools get along? angry they invade your library? etc.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a Bennington student on campus, in the library or otherwise. If they’re around, they’re not very vocal.

When I was there many years ago, there was zero connection between Williams and Bennington. Don’t forget that Williams had always been an all male campus and I’m sure that many Ephs had made the pilgrimage up Route 7 looking for “Bennington girls”. I don’t think Bennington women appreciated the “meat market” aspect of all that.

Along with that, the cultures of the two schools are very different.

Interesteddad-What year did you attend?

Back in the 70’s.

I’ve been to the town of Bennington several times, but had never seen Bennington students. Recently I met a friend from out of town at Bennington College. Honestly–I was a little creeped out…it’s hard to put my finger on what exactly it was about Bennington that I didn’t like, but it was just a little weird for me (and I love weird things). Williams students and Bennington students are really just too different to interact much.

I have no clue what you guys are talking about?

I take it that Bennington is a nearby college. STudents from Bennington come to Williams do use William’s library? What is the significance of this conversation? I am confused!

i’m just curious as to differences between the schools. i’m also curious as to williams students’ impressions of bennington kids.

My father was class of '75

There was a wonderful movie came out in 1969, I think, called “Three in the Attic”, about a guy from “Willard College” who was 3-timing three women at the neighboring women’s college. They kidnap him, lock him in the attack and feed him only yoghurt, as they try to intercourse him to death. As I remember, the main character was named Paxton Quigley (which is the name that has now been taken by the nation’s leading female firearms expert), and when we got a dog from the pound in North Adams, we named him Paxton Quigley (“PQ” or “Quiggee” for short, not to be confused with the famous campus dog “Yo Yo”.)

I think I saw it in a double feature with “Woman in the Dunes” (not about to explain that one), on the Bennington campus. I used to spend a lot of time there (but then I didn’t really fit in at “Willard”.) Adding a few Bennington students would sure add to Willard’s claim of “diversity”.

Class of '71 here.

I don’t ever remember running into any Bennington College students at Williams. Sometimes we went to Bennington to movies or to a restaurant, but very rarely. (I graduated from Williams in the early 1980’s).

Leonesa, Bennington VT is about 10-15 minutes north of Williamstown on Route 7. Bennington College was a women’s liberal arts college for many years and is now co-ed.
