Does anyone have recommendations for these with the lightning connector? Mine are all temperamental and I’m tired of it, even the cables that came with the phone and iPad mini! S recommended I just buy $1 cables from itechdeals and treat them as rapidly disposable, so I’ve bought some of them but am wondering if folks here gave found ones that work reliably for them. I have an old iPad mini and iphone6s.
Your S is correct.
I have bought the Amazon basic cables, but they are $6. They seem to be good quality, though. Also the iClever chargers, which have multiple usb ports, are a nice accessory.
I got my last iPad charging cable at BBB over a year ago. It’s still fine.
When it eventually breaks, I will spring the $15 for a newbie.
No more $1 deals for me!
When there is a groupon for (cheap) authentic apple cables, I buy several. They end up not working or I have to make sure that I check to see if it’s actually charging because only one side works.
I’m always wary of the really cheap ones because too often they heat up and seem dangerous.
My $3 cable outlasted my iPhone.
My cheap cables broke my iPhone. I stick to the apple brand now.
I got a very reliable one. It’s by Sharper Image. I also like that it has this rope-like covering that is less likely to break at the end. Oh, and it’s really long!!!
I’ve also purchased the 3-pack sold at the AT&T store. The 3-pack has 3 different length cables.
One of the interesting questions here is - why do the original chargers that came with the devices not hold up? I too have had them fray etc. - frustrating especially since it’s not like the devices themselves last for years!
If my device is newer - like an newer iPhone - I’m more comfortable using an Apple or Apple approved product.
If I was looking for a charging cable for my 5 year old iPad 2, I’d be willing to try something cheaper.
The ends break off, in my experience. They are JUNQUE. I have three Apple charging cables right not…and one from Bed Bath and Beyond. The BBB one is 10 feet long…it’s in my bedroom. It’s older than the other three combined…and cost less.
We haven’t had trouble with our cables lasting less than a few years, but when we’ve wanted extras, or lost one, the Amazon basics are the best value. They are relatively inexpensive, last well, and work fine. I lost my lightning cable on a college visit last spring and had to run into Target to buy a replacement. $20 for a Belkin cable–it nearly killed me to pay it, but I needed to be able to charge my phone. That one works fine too and it’s a pretty blue color, but still.
I just bought my first inexpensive non-apple cable, and not only did it not work, but I also got an error on my computer telling me that it was drawing too much power from the USB drive it was going to disable it. I don’t know where the power was going because it wasn’t going to my phone.
The cheap cable is going back to the store and I will stick to the apple products. They do physically fray, but so far they work (at least til they break) and I’ve gotten no nasty messages from my computer.
I’ve had good luck with cheap cables that I pick up at TJMaxx or wherever for $4.99 to $9.99. My girls swear that the ones with braided cord, like the Sharper Image one described above, last longer because the connection to the little end pieces is more secure.
I’d love a long cable. My outlet is on the floor level. It’s real PIA if someone calls while I am charging.
Costco has a package in store now, two long cables, car charger, wall plug. I got it a few months ago and it seems sturdy, plus I am saving the package for the entire 12 months I can return to Costco!
I got them for all the kids, too.
I wish I could find cheaper headphones that work well, last long and have a mic that allows phone calls to be understandable
We have been real pleased with the braided cables as they do not get twisted and bend when in a briefcase or tote bags. There is at least one of these in every room; they come is 3.3Ft as well as 4.9ft.
My cheapo cable that works for my iPhone 5 and kiddo’s 6 is made by this co:
I always get Apple Care and usually have at least one device covered. If one of my cables breaks/frays/etc., I bring it into the store and they replace it.
Really?? AppleCare covers the cables? I never knew that…just got a new iPhone and cable. My issue…the Apple Store is 45 minutes away.
My BBB cord is ten feet long!
