Hi guys, Our family is moving out west from New Jersey and we are looking for a reliable car-moving company that will move our trusty Honda Civic in a safe and timely manner. We already have a moving company (Mayflower) but they told us it would probably cost less to use a car-moving service. Unfortunately our one and only experience in the past with such a service was not too satisfactory- not so much because they damaged the car but because the whole process of dropping off and picking up the car was inconvenient and unpleasant.

So I’m wondering if people here can give any recommendations?

I had no problem with United Movers including two cars in my load. It cost less than any other enclosed shipper and was door to door.

NJ college friends heading to the West Coast for school?? I am not sure how reliable it would be, but when my parents moved 900 miles recently it was cheaper for some one from here to fly there and drive the car back than to pay for moving it. If you could find some one trustworthy that might be an option to investigate?

When we’ve had to move with cars, we’ve always had the mover do it. That way you’re assured that it will be inside a truck and secured properly. I would never feel comfortable with someone unknown driving my car long distances for me. If you are going to do that, be sure to check with your insurer.

I can’t use the movers because our stuff is first going into storage- possibly for a month or two- until we find a house to live in. We’ll need the car ASAP. It also costs about twice as much to have the movers do it. I’m not too concerned about those open trucks- the car is 7 years old, it will be insured, and don’t they also ship brand new cars that way?
